The motto for West Plains,  “Make it Happen Here”  was a successful reality for the  1st Annual Chuckwagon Races held at the Flying-R-Ranch July 29,30, and 31.

We want to extend a “special thank you” for making the event possible.    The sponsors, vendors, businesses and supporters “Made It Happen Here”.   Dates are now being scheduled for next year’s event.

The Midwest Chuckwagon  Racing Association provided the expertise for a  sanctioned  race .   Racers were accumulating  points to qualify for the National Championship Chuckwagon Races to be held in Clinton, AR on Labor Day weekend.

Michael Hoff, Senior Executive Vice-President of Community First Banking Company, stated “Community First is extremely pleased to sponsor, for the first ever, Flying-R-Ranch Chuckwagon Races and Rodeo.  Terry and Pam Carroll have created a popular destination at the Flying R Ranch, and by bringing the Chuckwagon Races and Rodeo to the ranch, it adds another layer of entertainment for the area.  These types of events play a huge part in helping to bring visitors and tourists to the West Plains area and, by doing  so, they are assisting every part of the local economy.”

The West Plains Daily Quill was invaluable as our media sponsor.  Their expertise in promoting the races throughout southern Missouri and Northern  Arkansas, was invaluable as they promoted the event, interviewed racers, and promoted this area as a destination city.

Travis Smith, Southern Hills Shopping Center, is to be commended for allowing  a  meet and greet with racers to display  their wagons, allowing children of all ages to sit in the wagons, and share their experiences.

We had over 2,000 attendees and 50 race teams.  The area-wide community brought their families and friends to the event.  Thank you again for your attendance, support, and promotion of a new event to bring tourism dollars to our area.
